What is Off-Page SEO?
Off-Page SEO consists of the factors which are ‘OFF or Outside’ your site page and which are not under your direct control.
You have written a piece of high-quality content and have done all the on-page SEO techniques (mentioned in the earlier step), now it's all about how much your hard work is respected in niche circles; how many other sites gladly link back with your site and how many people share your work on social media.
Off-page SEO simply signals to Google what other people think of your site content and how other sites rate your work. For example, if your work is such that CNN or BBC mention it on their site, Google would note it down that your work is trusted by high authority sites.
Why To Do Off-Page SEO?
In other words, what are the benefits of Off-Page SEO techniques? These techniques make your work popular, increase the number of visitors on your site, more and more people link back with your work (getting your more backlinks), and all this result that search engines raise your ranking to the first page.

- Blog Commenting
- Blog Directories
- Forum Marketing
- Social Bookmarking
- Question Answer Sites
- Image Sharing
1. Blog Commenting
This is probably the oldest method of getting backlinks. You read an article on a blog and in the comment section, you ask a question or add some more useful tips related to topic with url of your blog. Many people who have joined the discussion may feel interested to know more about your work and may visit your blog.
With blog commenting, you can easily engage the readers’ circle of big internet marketers.
- Be honest with your comments and only speak what you really feel about that blog post.
- Ask genuine questions
- Always share positively and don’t try to spam.
- If you do it consistently, your name will be known in IM circles (internet marketing circles) and other bloggers know more about you.
- Establish relationships by regularly commenting on blogs.
Analyze other people comments closely. What are the most common questions majority of people ask again and again. Then write a post on that topic and share a link with all of them.
2. Blog Directories
Like Yellow Pages, there are some blog directories which allow you to place a link to your blog or website in their directories. As a result, people searching that niche may visit your site.
This gives the chance of more traffic and backlinks to your site in Google’s eyes.
The high PA blog directories are:
Search Google for business directories and check the website DA (Domain Authority) and PA (Page Authority) to make sure of the quality the website.
3. Forums Marketing
People design communities or forums of their favorite niche to discuss new ideas and share solutions to problems. These communities or forums are the great sources to boost your off-page SEO practice.
Find forums which are related to your niche and actively participate in some high PR forums.
How to know about the best forums?
In the search bar of Google (or any other search engine), write this:
‘internet marketing’ + forums (or name of your niche)
And the search engine will show top 10 forums on the first page.
Sign up for all of these forums and get involved with them.
This will build your reputation and in that niche, you will gradually be seen as an expert in your field.
The well-known forums are:
- Your active participation is essential in these forums.
- Answer people’s questions

- Within your signatures, add a link to your site which help search engines and general public to check your site.
Use “Do-Follow” Forums so you can add a link to your site within your signature, which helps search engines crawl your site. If a forum does not offer do follow link, it is still good to use it for traffic and your reputation.
4. Social Bookmarking
Social bookmarking is another great off-page SEO technique. There are many high ranking sites where you can bookmark your post or article and they win you traffic and backlinks in return.
Search engines like these social bookmarking sites as the content are frequently updated.
Following are the best social bookmarking sites:
Use only high PR (page rank) and DA (domain authority) social bookmarking sites. Submitting your article to low quality sites negatively effect your ranking.
Go to Fiverr.com and hire any person to do this job for you.
5. Questions Answers Sites
There are some famous sites which are reserved for questions and answers.
If you have a question about any topic under the sun, just post your question and you’ll get many answers from experts.
It works the other way round too and that’s the point we are interested here. Go to your category/niche and see can you help any one by answering his/her question.
Along with your answer, you add a link to your blog which not only builds your reputation as an expert but also earns you backlinks and traffic.
The well-known question answer platforms are:
- Yahoo Answers
Don’t spam. Use this channel honestly and try to serve community. This is a great way to increase your link popularity.

People have a natural inclination towards pictures and images and now a days people also search for images. So knowing the fact, a number of sites work specifically in this niche.

1. Social Media Platforms
Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, Linkedin, G+ … today you can't live without them. Social media sites evolve themselves so much that they are now more powerful than ever.
As an internet marketer, it’s impossible for you not to have an active role in social media platforms. Contribute positively and provide value to your followers and subscribers. Engage with people on different social media platforms. This will build the reputation for your site, get you more visitors and quality backlinks.
These sites build trust and authority of your blog/website.
In addition to that, you can get a ton of traffic to your blog/website.
All search engines (Google, Yahoo, Bing) consider social signals as an important factor for websites ranking.

2. Article Directories
There are many sites which solely serve the purpose of collection of articles of all possible topics. If you want to search for information about any topic, you can visit any of these sites (e.g. ezinearticles.com) and study articles of your choice.
On the other hand, you can write an article and post to these directories with link to your blog. This way you can drive traffic to your site and also get some backlinks.

5. Web 2.0 Sites
It’s simple but great off-page SEO strategy.
There are many free website platforms having high domain authority (DA) and page authority (PA).
Blogger and WordPress are two great web 2.0 sites. Remember that when you build your blog on these free platforms, your domain name will be like this:
Treat these blogs just like your regular sites and add up unique content on these web 2.0 sites every now and then.
All you have to do is to place links in these articles back to your main blog so that readers of these blogs find your original blog and this will increase traffic of your money site.
This practice is commonly known as Private Blogging Network (PBN).
This is a creative way of getting backlinks from trusted and high DA sites. Since Blogger and WordPress have high authority on search engines, when your blog on these web 2.0 sites link back to your main blog, some of it’s authority juice pass to your main site too.
The well-known web 2.0 are:
LEVEL THREE (The Challenging Spot!)
Level three is where yours skills, patience and consistency will be tesed. This level demands your peak performance. Level three constitutes of:
- Video Sharing Sites
- Infographic Submission
- Guest Blogging
1. Video Submission
We all know one simple fact: People love videos more than written content.
What’s the proof?
Youtube is a proof of that.
Youtube is just a video site … but gradually it attains the position of world’s second biggest search engine after Google. It proves my point! People now use Youtube as search engine for finding solutions to their problems. The reason is that humans easily process visual information and following a video is quite easy for them … rather than reading long articles.
So, as an internet marketer, you just cannot afford to ignore videos.
Make videos to share your knowledge with the world and upload and share it with all video sites.
You’ll get high traffic and quality backlinks as these video sites have high PR.
Famous video sharing sites are:
- Be patient as making videos requires time and expertise.
- It’s better to have camera set on you (focusing your face) as this makes you brandable …. However if you are camera-shy, you can show slides and record your voice.
- An alternate approach majority of people use is that they show their face on camera only for introduction from 15 – 20 seconds and then switch over to screen shots/ slides.
- Videos are also needed to be SEOd. Set eye catching title, write unique description, use proper tags is quite a lot of work to be done.
Use camtasia for video recording. Use Powtoon for high quality video slides.
2. Infographics Submission
If you are a newbie, you might wonder what the hell is this infographic. Well, an infographic shows information graphically and through a diagram which is easy to follow and understand.
Look at the following infographic for better understanding:
The logic behind infographic is that human brain processes visual information 600 times faster than written content so an infographic gives you information in 1 minute which may take 10 minutes reading of an article.
So, create infographics and share it with different infographic submission sites. Give reference links to your webpage or blog for backlinks.
Here’s what Neil Petel found: “In my experience, I’ve found that infographics generate 37.5% more backlinks than a typical blog post.”
Well, what’s the challenge? Why people are not using this channel?
Making infographics yourself requires high level knowledge of graphic designing and ordering it to a professional designer demands high cost (anywhere between $200 – $800 depending upon the task!)
The high DA infographic sharing sites are:
3. Guest Blogging
This is one of the best off-page SEO method which generates more visitors and high quality backlinks.
What is guest blogging? You write a unique and high quality content and then request a blog owner (with high readership and followers) to post it on his blog and in Bio section, you give link to your blog. This way you drive traffic from that blog to your blog.
How to find blogs which are looking for guest posts?
Here is the simple process:
- Search Google with “Submit a guest post” keyword/phrase.
- you will find a lot of search results.
- Choose the blog who has good DA & PA and start guest posting.
Bloggers do it all the time to drive traffic from other bloggers websites.
Congrats – you read up till the end of this post.
But my friend, reading this article is one thing … and implementing these techniques is quite another.
God knows … how many posts and articles you’ve searched and saved in your computer … but focusing on one technique at a time, implementing it and then moving on to the next is the missing link to your success.
Earning passive income online is not as easy as it seems. You have to work hard and burn your midnight oil for a long time till you start seeing some results. So my advice: Patience and consistency is the key of online success.
Keep this in mind that both on-page SEO and off-page SEO techniques are essential for high ranking in search engine.
